Mekies on Red Bull and Racing Bulls: cars too different for shared development

Laurent Mekies has dismissed suggestions that Red Bull Racing could solve its current performance struggles by borrowing technical solutions from sister team Racing Bulls, stressing that the two cars are fundamentally too different for any meaningful crossover.

Mekies said: “No, I think the question is fair, but there’s a genesis of the car. Where the cars are coming from is too different for anyone to transfer anything from a car to another. It’s what Formula 1 is today. You know, it’s 10 independent teams all coming with their own ideas about where to develop the car, what difficulties they found along the way, which development paths they have ended up having due to that. And there is nothing you could take from a car to another. It’s really down to how it was developed from early on.”

Martin Brundle on Verstappen’s “indignity” finishing behind Liam Lawson in Hungary

Martin Brundle has highlighted the significance of Max Verstappen finishing behind Liam Lawson at the Hungarian Grand Prix, describing it as an "indignity".

Brundle said: "Verstappen wasn't having much of a day either, his Red Bull lacking pace as soon as his tyres overheated. He started eighth and finished ninth, along with the indignity of being behind his earlier in the season short-term team-mate Liam Lawson, who drove the sister Racing Bulls car into a fine eighth place. [These are] difficult days at Red Bull."
